"We aren’t the practice for surgeons who focus exclusively on operating.  We believe strongly that research and education add value to our care."

Full Description:
CT scans are routine diagnostic evaluations performed for a variety of reasons. In the torso, they are performed for spinal conditions, to evaluate the heart and lungs, as well as for acute abdomens and trauma.

Recently there has been a lot of attention paid to CT radiation dosage and possible deleterious effects, i.e. cancer risks. This has been brought up in articles in the Boston Globe and Medscape. This has mirrored the articles in the last 10+ years in the radiology journals.

With this attention to the possilble carcinogenic effect, a study is proposed to evaluate the CT dosages of the above diagnostic exams.

This study is to be performed on patients that are having CT scans of the spine. No patients are being recruited for the study, as the study population is patients that are already scheduled for these scans at Abbott Northwestern Hospital and Center for Diagnostic Imaging.
