Full Description:
Publications are demanding that we report functional outcomes using such tools as SF-36, NDI, ODI, and RM under the assumption that these are "objective" outcome measures. Our patients have consistently scored differently on our 5-question satsifaction interview and in their clinic comments. Our recent paper by Topp, et all., on the results of surgey for degenerative scoliosis associated with spinal stenosis showed the biggest surgery, a decompression and full curve fusion had the worst SF-36 outcomes, but the best outcomes on our satisfaction questionnaire. Why this discrepancy?"
