Fixation for the spine can be done with rods or plates attached to the spine with wires, hooks, or screws. Usually screws are the most secure form of fixation in the lumbar spine and in some instances the only effective form of fixation.
Some pedicle screws are not FDA approved.
The spinal instrumentation provides the internal support while the spine is fusing. Your surgeon will decide if an external support (cast/corset/brace) is also needed to provide the stability of the spine as it is healing.
Spinal instrumentation can be used with a posterior spinal fusion for surgical management of differing spinal conditions of the lumbar spine.
This spinal implant system may also be used with other spinal implant components in the surgical management of spinal disorders involving other levels of the spine.
