Halo Pin Site Care

After Halo Removed:
After the pins are removed, continue to do pin site care for one week, or until the sites have formed dry scabs.

Review of Pin Site Care:

  • Dip a Q-tip into the hydrogen peroxide and clean one pin site.
  • Remove any crusts that form around a pin site using the Q-tip.
  • Dip another Q-tip into the betadine solution and paint around the cleansed pin site.
  • Repeat for each pin site.
  • A new Q-tip is used for each solution and pin site.
  • Do not put a used Q-tip into a solution bottle.
  • Check each pin site daily for redness or drainage using a flashlight and standing in front of a mirror. The goal is to keep the pin sites clean.
  • Massage pin sites 30 seconds, four (4) times per day until completely healed to break up adhesions and improve healing.
